Hiura named NL Rookie of the Month

August 03, 2019 - 3:05 pm

Keston Hiura continues to add on to his already impressive rookie season by earning NL rookie of the month honors for July.  Astros' rookie slugger, Yordan Alvarez, joins Hiura as the AL rookie of the month.

Brewers fans knew that Hiura had a polished bat coming up through the minor leagues, but probably weren't expecting him to adjust to the majors as quick as he did.  With less than 50 MLB games under his belt this season, Hiura has already recorded 11 home runs with a slash line of .316/.387/.592.

To say that he was hot at the plate in the month of July would be an understatement. In the 25 games that he played in July, Hiura earned a .355 avg with 6 home runs and 18 RBI.  One of those home runs helped the Brewers complete a comeback victory against the Chicago Cubs, capped off by a walk-off home run by Hiura.  He also put together a 15-game hitting streak throughout the month, helping him earn NL player of the week honors.
