Gonzalez & Chacin hit the IL

Brewers short-handed on starting pitching

June 01, 2019 - 4:05 pm

The Brewers decided to place Gio Gonzalez on the ten-day injured list before the start of game three against the Pirates.  The team was expected to make a couple of roster moves this weekend with Travis Shaw and Manny Pina both on rehab assignment but placing Gonzalez on the injured list sort of shocked some people.  The Brewers are calling Gonzalez's injury a "dead right arm."  Manny Pina has been activated from the injured list after wrapping up his rehab assignment with the single-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

The team also announced on Sunday that Jhoulys Chacin will also hit the ten-day injured list with a lower back strain.  Jacob Nottingham has also been optioned to AAA San Antonio.  Taylor Williams and Jacob Barnes were recalled in the corresponding moves.  The Brewers are now down two of their starting pitchers.  Jimmy Nelson will make his long-awaited return to the majors on Wednesday against the Marlins.
