Marquette edges Nova

February 09, 2019 - 8:31 pm

The race is on in the Big East.

And Marquette can thank its much-improved defense.

The Golden Eagles played as a unit to get a stop in the final seconds and claim a 66-65 victory over Villanova in a top-15 clash on Saturday at Fiserv Forum. The Wildcats (19-5, 10-1) suffered their first conference loss after becoming the first team to win 10 straight games to start a Big East season since Connecticut in 1998-99. MU (20-4, 9-2) pulled closer in the league race and won for just the second time in the last 11 meetings with Villanova, the 2016 and '18 NCAA champion.
