Green Bay, WI - The Green Bay Packers placed Lane Taylor on the injured reserve list Saturday after the veteran left guard left practice early Thursday with a bicep injury.

Taylor, 29, joined the Packers as an undrafted player in 2013. He worked his way up from special teams to a fill-in at both the right and left guard positions.

When Josh Sitton was surprisingly released at the end of training camp, 2016, Taylor replaced him at left guard.

On September 4, 2017, the Packers signed Taylor, out of Oklahoma State, to a three-year, $16.5 million contract extension after starting all 16 games for the first time in 2016.

Taylor has been a durable player, but in 2018 struggled much of the season with an ankle injury.

The Packers drafted Elgton Jenkins, a center, from Mississippi State, in the second round of this year's draft, who has challenged Taylor for the left guard position.

In the Packers season opener at Chicago, Bears defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris ran an inside stunt leaving Taylor flat on his back in Green Bay's opening drive. Jenkins was brought in to play left guard for a few series both against the Bears and Vikings last weekend.

On Friday, head coach Matt LaFleur named Jenkins the starter at left guard.

“He just did his job,” LaFleur said of the rookie Jenkins' performance so far. “Typically up front, unless a guy’s just road-grading somebody and pancaking him, you don’t want to notice those guys too much. And he did his job.”

Taylor could return to the active roster in 8 weeks, in mid-November, if he is physically ready. READ MORE HERE

The video interview is with Lane Taylor shortly after the Packers 10-3 victory over the Chicago Bears Week 1.

The Packers signed offensive guard/tackle Adam Pankey, 25, to the 53 - man roster Saturday.  Panky, 6-foot-5, 313 lbs. has been on Green Bay's practice squad and active roster since 2017, when he joined the team as an undrafted prospect out of West Virginia.  He was waived by the Packers August 31st, and signed by the Titans to their practice squad.
