2019 MLB Draft Preview

Who fits for Crew?

June 03, 2019 - 1:20 pm

The 2019 MLB Draft opens tonight (June 3) at 6 p.m. CST. A rare spot in recent years, the Brewers find themselves picking on the back end of each round.

Their first pick comes at No. 28 in Round 1, and the team holds just that pick and No. 65 overall in the first 132 overall selections -- a result of their wheeling and dealing over the offseason. The team traded No. 41 overall to acquire pitcher Alex Claudio from the Rangers and forfeited their third-round pick to sign free agent catcher Yasmani Grandal.

It makes the necessity of hitting on their early picks all the more important. But how will general manager David Stearns and amateur scouting director Tod Johnson approach those selections? Position player or pitcher? High-risk/high-reward or playing it safe? Adam McCalvy discusses, and provides some predictions, at Brewers.com.
