MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers used some timely hitting and some shotty defense from Washington to steal a game from Max Scherzer and the Nationals, winning 5-3. The Nationals committed four errors on the night, and despite the Brewers hitting 4-17 with runners in scoring position, they still found ways to manufacture runs, with Ben Gamel leading the way with three hits from the leadoff spot, replacing the injured Lorenzo Cain. Jhoulys Chacin started the game for the Crew, surrendering two earned runs in the first, but settled down to finish the day after five innings,  two runs and three strikeouts. Junior Guerra closed out the ninth for his second save of the season, and the Brewers improved to 6-2 on the homestand.

Game two of the series will see Stephen Strasburg face off against Adrian Houser, first pitch at 6:40 from Miller Park.
