MILWAUKEE - Gio Gonzales got lit up for eight runs in the first two innings, and the Cardinals ultimately wound up beating the Brewers by a gaudy 12-2 score.

Gonzales recovered (out of necessity) to throw five innings, but still surrendered nine runs on nine hits, with four walks.

The Brewers had their chances to make this one a ballgame, but ultimately the offense still couldn't get over the hump with runners in scoring position, and only two runs were scored.

Game two of this three game series is Tuesday night, Adrian Houser will take on Mike Mikolas for the Cardinals.
