HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 5 Marquette Golden Eagles fell victim to an early NCAA Tournament exit, losing to the  No. 12 Murray State Racers 83-64 in the first round, Thursday.

It caps a dismal end to the season for Marquette. Sitting as a Top 10 team in the country for most of the season, the Golden Eagles lost their final five games of the regular season and were bounced in the Big East conference semifinals. Hoping for redemption in the national tournament, they took one on the chin.

Markus Howard carried the team, as best he could, as usual; he scored a game-high 26 points. Sam Hauser had a 16 point/10 rebound double-double, too. The rest of the team scored 22 points combined, and four guys -- including Sacar Anim and Theo John -- were held scoreless.

Murray State delivered a true team effort with four different starters scoring at least 14. They out-assisted Marquette 23 to six, too. Read more here.
