What to watch for: LaFleur opens 1st Packers offseason program

April 08, 2019 - 3:03 pm

Matt LaFleur has been putting his fingerprints on the Green Bay Packers organization for a few months now. From building his coaching staff to establishing his message, LaFleur has been continuously working toward an image of success. That image takes another step toward manifestation, Monday, as LaFleur launches his first offseason program as an NFL head coach.

The launch comes on the heels of a tumultuous week for the previous regime: Mike McCarthy, Ted Thompson, Aaron Rodgers and Mark Murphy all faced public criticism in the form of breaking articles from Rob Demovsky, Tyler Dunne and others. The media firestorm adds a wrinkle, or perhaps an obstacle, to LaFleur's program -- keeping players focused on football and not rumors.

With that in mind, there's plenty to keep an eye on as the Packers take their first steps, as a team, in the LaFleur era: What will be the relationship between LaFleur and Rodgers? Will Rodgers build chemistry with his young receivers in year two? How will the offensive line transition to a new, zone blocking scheme? Can Mike Pettine's defense continue to grow in his second year as defensive coordinator? Which defensive backs will line up where?

Ryan Wood explores all those questions in his latest for PackersNews.com.
