ANOTHER one! Davies to IL

Nelson done for season?

August 05, 2019 - 5:19 pm

All-Star Brandon Woodruff? Injured.

Veteran Jhoulys Chacin? Injured.

Jimmy Nelson? Injured. Like, REALLY, injured (see below.)

Corbin Burnes? Injured (and demoted.)

Things can't get worse for the Brewers' rotation, right? Wrong.

The injury comes at perhaps the worst possible time for a rotation in desperate need of stability -- something Davies has proven capable of being, though he hasn't been at his best as of late (18 earned runs allowed in his last 13 innings).

The team also optioned RHP Aaron Wilkerson to Triple-A San Antonio, Monday. Taking Davies' and Wilkerson's spots are two newcomers to the Crew's pitching staff: rookie Devin Williams and recently-acquired Jake Faria.

Williams, the Brewers' No. 14 prospect, has flown through the ranks this season. Posting a 2.36 ERA and 7-2 win/loss record while converting 4-of-4 save opportunities in 31 relief outings with Double-A Biloxi, Williams rose to Triple-A San Antonio on July 26 where he was yet to allow a run. The 24-year-old right hander was a Brewers second-round pick in 2013.

Faria, acquired on MLB trade deadline from the Rays for Jesus Aguilar, made just one appearance for the Brewers' Triple-A club -- one perfect inning thrown on August 3. It continues a good run for Faria who had a 1.93 ERA in 42 innings between the minors and Majors since June 1 when acquired by the Brewers.
