Will starting pitching hold up?

PREVIEW: Brewers @ A's Gm1

July 30, 2019 - 4:52 pm

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Brewers have headed west, prepared for the first of a three-game series against the Athletics.

With injuries having decimated the Crew's rotation, manager Craig Counsell is taking a day-to-day approach to the rotation. Adrian Houser has been announced as the Game 1 starter, but no such pitcher has been named for the remaining games in the series. As a starter, Houser has struggled this season: 0-4, 7.83 ERA in six starts. The abundance of injuries in the rotation propelled Houser back to a starting role from the bullpen where he has enjoyed much greater success.

The Brewers did receive good news on one of their injured starters, though he's not a guy who will likely find the Major-League mound any time soon.

Brandon Woodruff (oblique) and Jhoulys Chacin (lat) remain on the long-term mend, but Gio Gonzalez (shoulder) remains day-to-day and in the mix for a start later this series against his former team.
