MILWAUKEE -- Bucks guard Eric Bledsoe was diagnosed with a rib cartilage fracture early in the preseason that was expected to sideline him for two to three weeks. A best-case scenario was confirmed, Tuesday; Bledsoe will start the Bucks season opener against the Rockets on Thursday -- closer to the two weeks than three weeks side of his diagnosis.

Bledsoe signed a four-year, $70-million contract extension with the Bucks in March. Four months later, the Bucks added a backcourt running mate for Bledsoe. Thursday night in Houston, the two will take the floor alongside one another, as well as Brook Lopez, All-Star Khris Middleton and MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Matthews' signed for two years and just over $5 million in July, one of a handful of offseason acquisitions that included sharpshooter Kyle Kover, Robin Lopez and Thanasis Antetokounmpo among others.
