CHICAGO -- The NFL's 100th season starts with the most storied rivalry of the league's existence. The Packers visit the Bears at Soldier Field, kicking off at 7:20 p.m. CST.

It’ll be the 199th meeting between the two teams; the Packers lead the all-time series 97-95-6. Splitting last year’s home-and-home, the Packers still hold an edge in Chicago despite losing at Soldier Field last season – they’ve won 21 of the last 26 games there, including the 2010 NFC Championship. The Green & Gold have won at a similar clip since Aaron Rodgers stepped under center; he’s 17-5 in his starts against the Navy & Orange.

“I think it’s pretty fitting,” said Rodgers on the season-opening matchup. “It’s always been a great rivalry. It’s one of the special ones in the history of professional sports. A lot of great players and great names on both sides have played in this game.”

No kidding. 53 busts in the Pro Football Hall of Fame represent inductees of the two teams. The Vince Lombardi and George Halas trophies represent greatness in the NFL and the NFC respectively, drawing heritage from the league’s forefathers of football excellence. The legacies of the two coaches cast a titanic shadow on those who have followed in their footsteps. The journey out of that shadow starts for Packers rookie head coach Matt LaFleur, tonight.

“Any time you get the opportunity to kick off the NFL season, let alone the 100th year and in a rivalry game,” said LaFleur, “I know that the atmosphere is going to be electric.”
