GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Jace Sternberger's rookie season might be over before it started. The Packers placed the 2019 third-round pick on injured reserve, Tuesday.

Sternberger missed a good chunk of training camp, and valuable game snaps, after a hit during joint practices with the Texans placed him in concussion protocol and left him nursing a jaw injury. He didn't makes his game debut until the fourth preseason game, and made just one catch for two yards before an awkward, tangled-up tackle sent him to the locker room on the trainer's cart.

In his final collegiate season, Sternberger racked up 10 touchdowns and 832 yards on 48 catches.

The team has promoted wide receiver Allen Lazard to the 53-man roster to take Sternberger's spot. Lazard has six catches for 114 yards and a touchdown in three preseason games. He becomes the team's seventh wide receiver.
