Well Was It Racial Or Not

The disheartening sexual abuse scandal that rocked USA gymnastics has barely entered the healing process and now we have the possibility of a racial dilemma in regard to the winter version of Team USA as well.

In a bizarre tweet, 2-time gold medal winner Shani Davis tweeted, “I am an American and when I won the 1000m in 2010 I became the first American to 2-peat in that event. @TeamUSA dishonorably tossed a coin to decide its 2018 flag bearer. No problem. I can wait until 2022. #BlackHistoryMonth2018 #PyeongChang2018”.

The insinuation was as if Davis wasn’t going to be the flag bearer because of a racial bias.  The Olympic team chose the athlete to represent them and the voted ended in a tie, thus the coin flip.  Not sure how that’s racially motivated but until Davis explains, we’ll have to live with the innuendo.

One note to Davis, if you’re going to man enough to drop the race card, be man enough to explain it because that’s a pretty heavy card to drop.
