You Bet Your _______

Sports betting could be coming to a state near you.

On Monday, the Supreme Court struck down a federal law that prohibits sports gambling in a landmark decision that gives states their own ability to legalize betting on sports.

New Jersey plans on being the first state to take advantage of the court’s decision.  The claim is that $8 billion dollars will be generated for the state to tax and take advantage of.

There will obviously be some opposition to additional gambling in many areas, but the almighty dollar will speak the loudest.

If the leagues and states can get funds for things like police and fire departments, education funding, infrastructure repairs and such, I’m all for it.  But if this going into the league and state’s coughers with the paying citizens seeing much of a benefit at all, then what are we doing and why really are we doing it.

So read the fine print my friends.  I’ve always said that if we citizens cared as much about every day government as we do about stadium funding and sports betting, our governments would be run at a profit and we would be living in a city called Xanadu.
