From the league's front tool. Want this is where Wisconsin sports fans come to tour. Michael show named best radio show in the Wisconsin broadcasters awards for excellence. Here's your home. Cheerio welcome bill Michael shell on the you know we are glad to have you thanks so much as always we appreciate take a listen to was talking little baseball we bring our national baseball insider Seth Everett on the lot said I don't man. Like my friend good to talk to you want. But I have a question for you before we start they should not affect. What the issue with the US open because I'm headed there. Follow with the US open well. Isn't the only agitation to cock remember back in 2004 that was when the green eye care which one was with soul. Dried out they blurted out they flatten it out the ball wouldn't stay on right and they legally could you bought there are literally I mean it won't sit there the wind blown it would roll off. And they took our running before. Learning now it's pouring doubt that helps. That while they know it's you know what though it's it's an absolute wonderful time if you like golf if you just like walking and taking it in. The scenery is there's there's that you are major there's nothing like. I do have a funny golf story that is my second major that I am attending. I'm doing a couple of four pieces four and that's why I'm going to. But might funny story is the last time I was ever at a major was at the PGA championship. In Hollywood 2000 Seattle. And all I was doing with updates. And it was like the early stages of the Internet I never understood. How you can cover golf tournament and leave the media center because particularly update you need to. Those two leaderboard. Now you can putt through the leaderboard on default. Right yeah yeah well on your front. Brenda you know when you get the Ben you can download an app that'll give you live. That's when you select all of that knocked it you couldn't recreate that issue but I would in the media center I have not seen a golfer I did not see a stroke. And the guy who was supposed to host on KJ are in Seattle to host the final round. Got into an accident knocked down like threatening accident but upon predict heart. He couldn't get there. I didn't know anything I will give you the one fact that I knew pickup that tournament Vijay Singh went from PG. Upon. A look at this hour to that if and how it doesn't then it's been nineteen years and I'm going to another major. Hey it's it's it's changed a lot but deadly game it's it's like baseball you don't go for twenty years to come back you think while the ball parks are amazing there's interactive stuff to do but the game itself is still listen. That picked up the problem is baseball not that not that you know I was I was at an event yesterday. Where I ran into some employees from the commissioner's office but he ran over her hand he's doing what's going on. And I said how is that you know how it happened how it is developing tense right now. And they should know. And should c'mon I said you don't want the game that. But it could all you have to do is watch the game you have to understand the concern. And they were just like authentic competition committee for that we'll take care of like. If this is not a major thing for them I have. Dumbfounded I don't know if you saw today they're talking about radical realignment. Policy in the tail in the NL. Expansion there's all kind of took. No we're talking about this last week or two weeks ago actually. Where in other words were taken her was electric their technically I think it was as matter fact we talked about has. The interleague play worn off should they go to on standardized version and all kind of stuff or just get rid of the you know that that the DH the American League and nationally in that sense and in re we talked a real. One thing I read that they would be talking about is making it eastern conference's western car. And I think there's a lot of central team that would get shafted that way. You know because if you make your money on the Yankees and the Red Sox coming to town feel the white sox' pursuit. And now all of a sudden they're only gonna come one because it. If you're in the Western Conference that route that that remains to be here I'm interested to see how that is. I'm not a poet I'm not that traditionalists. That is opposed to any of that kind of stuff I can't clearly play because. It makes the schedule unfair. You know the idea that you know the cubs have to play the wiped out but who's the brewers play between. Yeah yeah. Why don't forget go back years and years when the when the royals were horrible and it brewers play in the prince when they were pretty good the cardinals are playing the royals. Cardinal player will put the royal and my favorite one was you know and he created that it would be exposed in the blue jays. And then the when it when the national happened the Orioles had to play the national so they blew up the Philly even others like less than a hundred miles between their ballparks yeah. And so the blew up at Philly they gave a politically the blue jays and then I'll have to re enacted in 93 World Series has had in fifteen years that Britain care about it. Don't don't advocate I'm not trying to bury the lead I did I have thought that would go for too little tidbit I can bring to the table great performance by its attention to. Arm so it in. I'm looking at the is that the lineup today OK I'm just have to simply talking about the brewers in the cubs. And going into this series at the beginning of the week percent of feel at least of for us may be a playoff type of atmosphere because as the team Yemen able to beat. As a team that clearly is supposed to win your division if you're going to be chasing anybody that's teeming going to be chasing you were ahead of them coming into the series and not her face them again until September. Therefore. You're only as good as the next day starter but it's incumbent upon you not to get in they have the cubs getting your head. Because of that when it comes down on the chips are down in my opinion if you figure out you can't beat them then when you get to September and you're right there went on. All of a sudden you're already out of the mental ledge so to speak so that's why I felt that this was an important series can you have an important series early on engine. I got that thing yesterday on your flagship. One up by seven and you know the picture would have to leave that exact question are they in their head. And all like that what they're still nine games left. But the reality evidences and let you go five and for the remaining nine games you know upshot is that. Wouldn't get caught that. There's no way they go three and six in the nine games remaining against the cops and can win the NL central. So just bottom line it that way back how big game. And you know people will say to me you know went June what are you talking about and you know me I have been critical of the sport as possible. But the fact remains that when you have a big game have a big game the one thing I have prided myself over the 24 years and I've covered this sport. It I don't only promote. I would not promote some Foley match up just because that you don't respond directly to. My hip thing it is if you have a baseball game that has great grand value I will circled on the calendar to meet brewers cubs this afternoon is much. I say I agree I think this is a lot to this. For brewers for the cubs the pubs connect like the brewers euros and that their face and keep swatting at them you know they go right when it comes to. I know they're biggest rivals and that and I understand that but the and understand that if you look at it doesn't mean the end of the world. But it can just remember you have to go at least five important midnight remaining games against the cubs and if you go three and six. You have no shot of winning the division. Mean. Buy out RI I look at this this series and I think of the brewers to win this. You get a little bit it would build a juice back if you lose this that is going to be something that lingers in your head until September now as we move forward. Look news some of the bid we still although the brewers have still the most wins in the National League. We know that they're you know they're pretty good team but as you see them. Is it a pitcher or is it an additional bat is what they need. I would say a picture. You know I I would love veteran. You know that there's been. The idea behind it is I just love a veteran to to go in that young rotation. It's not that the plant somebody if it's just a lot of veteran person. And I I used the word anchored not a you because to me an anchor terrific guy that I can't just promise me that strong. You know I'm not promising shut out I'm not asking for Clayton Kershaw. Don't think like I'm asking for something else. I would also love another reliever and that took to be a compliment to the other you would have to the bullpen so far. But I would love another reliever you're submit. Ago. I do think that you know he's created at the end of the year rent them you won't wouldn't talk a lot just go to. And back to me is the logic if you could get one starter when reliever and again it doesn't have to be an all star. It has to be just the guy that you can depend better and that I can have to carry the ball and if you won for a he's gonna keep it going and if you've lost four row he's gonna stop the lead. The domestic. One to move on with some other stuff going around baseball and you'd kind of mentioned some of the realignment stuff some of the thought the commissioner's office and I just had a question here misses the mark and mark once you know he's an asset when he feels that all this stuff will be implemented if any of it. As far as fans go when you start to hear stuff about this CI I go back to back when they were gonna do the realignment they're gonna go to different divisions. There's forum for years and years I grew up Haiti the Dodgers because the Dodgers were in the reds division and was always a resonant Dodgers down the very end in the bigger machine one out of eagle there. Then when they moved it suddenly kind of like left there with your hands are going okay whose arrival now walls and became the cardinals and became the cubs. So my question is. If Europe and you're wondering okay what's the next shoe to fall when do you think the next shoe falls. In order for them to do that what they're talking about just 32 teams and they are actually proposing sixteen teams make the play. And the argument in and a shorter regular C. I'll just say got a short currencies. No of course it via the riddler I I hit him that connected to develop. The reason why I think there's. Credence to that is you have some markets. In Portland. Charlotte. They get Montreal. And the argument that I have heard recently and this is something that I did because I'm a podcast coming out with a former PR got for the Montreal Expos. And in another person who I think is very intelligent who does not watch the current state of baseball. And he thinks it's not and if he thinks that the wet. He also thinks that they picked Tampa. That would. American League east rival with the blue jays would be perfect. If you take the interleague out of it and make their a could make them actually grew its schedule. I would love the idea of the brewers facing the cubs and the white. I would love the idea of the Yankees playing the Mets in the Phillies. I love it when the Rangers play the islanders and the flyers. I hate all the teams but if you look you can thank you but I think that that might I have no issue with geographic rival. I'm of the rocky marriage to be a rival. I would you know I I think those things would be wonderful. When I don't like is I don't like the made up ones just to justify the inner city and when the inner city once don't sell look at red Indians. Look at these giant. And you know to me that the one debate is are you fixing Oakland and are you pick in Tampa. And they have to be Oakland first because they don't heavily. And they've playing in the thoughtful. And the idea or did he do not want to have. I've seen leave the numbers six television market you know who David Stern probably laughing at bat because he took. The Sonics away from market twelve but. You wouldn't do that. You would consider moving the Tampa Bay Rays. To Montreal. The idea though is if you could expand and you could edit came in Montreal and it seemed in Portland. And goes sixteen that died in each conference and have the top eight make the playoffs. You've essentially created begin yet. Correct. I know I looked I like I said I as a fan I know I'm looking forward to baseball being baseball for a long time to come. I is like similar rivalries that we have and I hate to lose what would which some hole we have a some of the game I'm done with I'm done with these made up rivalries of interleague play I'm done with. I like this you go again I've felt where you play the balanced schedule and that early unbalanced schedule an error the about a schedule in the sense of us similar opponents. And just kind of rotated every year. One thing that was brought up to me by the commissioner's office people and it it was very interesting was the idea cute you know the big problem with baseball now it launch angle. Everything. Angle you're talking about launch angle over contact and that to me is that it is the doom there for a sport. Good thing that I heard what the origination. Of launch angles statistic was shipped. Because the idea was you know deep when they win when he started implementing the ship they were daring you to bunt down the line. Right there appear lefty batter in the shipped all the way to the right side that daring you to brought down the left field line. And that never happened. They never taught that. Because in essence if you do that you've taken this is the philosophy of the of the scout in the managers they're saying if you do that it's taken a bat out of Mike slugger hand. My mentality it could take it then they won't have to. Yeah about sacrifice that back get a big hit that let them know that my mentality but that's not fair what their mentality is. In order to beat the ship could you hit a line drive and you hit it on the ground there's an extra infielder you'll never work it'll never work. So would have to be about wanting. To the argument would be if you outlaw the ship. Would there be less dependent on logic. And then you would get some of the 101000 missing ball in play from 20192018. You next week I was what I what I promise you at the beginning of the season. What I would not be the complainer. I would try to fit in all I'm trying to do a search for solutions. When we do when we reconvene next week that's one of the things fundamentally I wanna talk about is the inability for many major leaguers in teams to actually create offense via the blog I want to get into that discussion to. Here are our buddy we'll talk again next week. Operator. Open YouTube well thought he says adios does have international base boys are joining us for a couple of minutes in the general orange hotline. Or if you want to jumpstart the only loss program great way to do great way to do it. And yes it works again at 41445544. 51 the pressure is on. The other first do you check Cox staring down the tumbling heaving expanse of fest UN fairway. On the US open trying to get it right this year. In the article that I referred to actually I had made a mistake wasn't in CBS was on USA today. But it in the US open a lot of pressure. Where they talk about 156. Golfers are gonna tee it up pension account for the first round of the 118 US open tomorrow. And the US GA under pressure to deliver a controversy free championship on a course that was built. And then all but ruined. Are back in 2004 in the wake of the US open then and they may have saved them they say chambers bay an errant fuels. That receive less than stellar reviews sandwiched around the rules. Of nightmares at Oakmont. Via the golf course and the way to set up for the open has been part of every story at least since the massacre at Winged Foot back in 1974 when US GA. Overall reacted many believe it Johnny Miller's closing 63 year before. It's easy to be critical US open venue especially in hindsight what's not easy as making parred every hole. He coveted score without turning the championship course. Into recordable of golf. Is Phil Mickelson put it on Monday. He's that I think is a very fine line and it's not a job I would want. I know what the US GA is doing the best are no other view is GA is doing the best they can't find that line. And a lot of times they do and sometimes they cross over it was not an easy job for all of us to criticize. In recent years US GA stepped outside the box take in the national championship to new courses. And then he talks about chambers bay. In university place not well received by the players or by many TV viewers who turned in and and turned out. They say last year Erin hills 35 miles northwest of downtown Milwaukee was left defenseless. By rain that soften the extra wide fairways. And day after day nearly win list conditions. No matter that it was the longest US open course in history Brooks kept go one at sixteen under. Justin Thomas fired a third round 63 in 31 players broke par that week. What that fails to mention is seven out of the top ten players in the world and make it cut. So. I I sold that this is the US GA's fault for last year. Well for the whether he's he's basically saying that he they take it to these new venues that they think you're really cool and and they're knocked. And you know we knew he talks about this particular writer by the way now is this guy was even error last year writer well. Actually there's a couple of different ones there's one itself for mark. Mark realm. And the news and on the net he takes him quote out of Gary D'Amato is column as well. Gary D'Amato who also wrote part of this for the US GA but for the US effort USA today. But they talk about Erin hills and the venue. Being new but because they left the the of the fairway so why. And they try to do it in one of these new up and coming venues they didn't really have a handle on they should Madonna. Okay the only golfer that I remember that was complaining about Erin hills leading up to determine was Kevin Na. Right because he she shot this video of him you out of the fast you stranded out of the fats gains and why are we supposed to play this. OK Kevin. Stop. The US GA went out of her way. Two wide angles fairways to not make this golf course is brutal as it could be the thing is about Erin hills. It is one animals of personal golf courses in the country. And probably the world because if you've ever been up to Erin hills he would know. That that piece of property is massive you can do whatever you want to hole you wanna expanded a hundred yards fine. You are short it a hundred yards five you wanna. Let you wanna wide enough the fairways a mile wide goal forty if you wanna make dumb you don't. You know 1020 yards wide you can do that too you can do so many different things of that golf course. In the US GA they were infatuated with Erin hills they loved every part of it and they thought going into the tournament. That the wind. Which naturally is right around 21 mean thirty miles an hour that's usually what it is every day out there. Because of the topography because of the hills. They figured that with that and launched rescue which was going to be an issue. Why in the fairways gives the players a little bit of a chance. Because if they really wanted to they could could've made this thing with a Wayne score could've been ten over par make adult whenever they want it but they wanted to respect the golf course and like Gary D'Amato talked about earlier on the show. Keep all the par fives there in what was lesson we side US open they had. For par fives on. More remembered Jordan's speech said in an interview bomb chambers bay is not Erin hills and Erin hills is not chambers bay remember he wanted 2011 US amateur and Aaron hill's right. And he said. Neither course has a tree on the you have to hit around. So even though the course as these then fair Earth's neo fairways with the sixth rescue that aren't it's no easy easy play. There are hitting around trees are not like when your playing off the pine straw at the masters or. You're playing even that even at Whistling Straits. We have yes the high test you but you do have some trees every now and then you have to economy and you know meander. Now whistling as early Yemeni Sri ZT goes all the way down following on the concrete bed yet eighteen and that's about it in but. Most traditional US open venues have always had trees that's always something you had to navigate around. But now they're going to more venues that kind of have this links style feel to. It looked. Going into the tournament the weather happen the rain softened up the greens allow players to score. And when you've got all 44 par fives available now deciding era go its birdie time you can do it and the winds were. Dave there was no wind out there the first three days no. It was it was a shock to everyone systems and that's why you saw these Griese source the only time that tournament bill. Were it felt like actual US open was Sunday morning. Was up there Sunday morning. Follow some of the groups there were may be out of the morning group of guys that were out there there are only like three or four golfers under par because the winds picked up it changed the golf course. And then once the winds died down again going in the afternoon than the scoring went right back up. There's some in the US GA can do about that was schools big surprise everyone Lister to criticize Erin hills. I just things load of crap and every golfer coming up their outside Cavanaugh praise the golf course even the guys like Garrett a model said. Miss the cut and a lot of big names missed the cut this prison golf course that they would look to combat key note bill. I guarantee you wonder if they're going to come back in terms of all I don't think currency Mayo here. Probably end it after the after the Ryder Cup finally we see a major here in from today the next twenty years. Could happen I mean yeah the US open Ernie has venues suffer like in the next ten years. But the US GA they were very pleased at the end of the day with how when and it was an exciting US open a bill I really I guarantee you there's going to be another US open at Aaron hill's. I've problem beef up our beef you know 4550 years old when that happens. But it will come back I I really I really do blocked it I thought they like Emanuel I think they like to set up I think they like you availability for fans to be able to mingle of course. There's different venues you could squeeze. If they wanted to squeeze a 100000 people here they could have that type of that I I think though the US GA will find ways to get other tournaments. Out to Erin hills in the near future you know I I don't know like the US senior open I should see how far out they had their venues. Same thing with the US women's open you could see tournaments. Out there and Erin hills down the road I'd be curious they should check and see how far they go check that during a break but. You know if we don't see it actually US open at Erin hills in fifteen years you might see some other differ majors come there and I think that would be a pretty big deals because again that golf course when that I like to see into whatever you want to just just different colleges different tournaments coming I would love to see that. Alice in this regard take a quick break we come back Mac he's up next Mike McCarthy spoke to me a little bit early we'll tell you hear from him coming up next in the Michael chip. Everywhere in Wisconsin. The bill Michael sports talk network. A world of sports a lot of people say a lot of things. But doesn't pass the big unit test. Let's play by yourself. Brought you my brightest college athletics offering athletic scholarships at nine junior college sports book learn more Ed BSE bobcats dot com. This is the bill Michael's show me. Programme unlike those shall we are on the air time now for bio orders already adjust any priority or Jordan got today. Bill Jimmy Graham will lead the Green Bay Packers in touchdown receptions for 2018 minute wanna say yes just because. Who's so good last year inside the twenty previous Seattle Seahawks he seems to be healthy and feeling good. Something tells me no and not because he's not going to be good it just because. They've just because. Could be Randall Cobb. I you know among my gut tells me Dovonte Adams. He's going to be the guy but I. Portrait for lack of a better option. Key should be so I will say yes. And I'll buy that. But just tell me every time I have something pay to with the Packers like the couple years ago we said man deep deep deep wide receiving corps. And held a sudden you know majority goes down everything goes to hell. And then. Last year deep deep deep secondary you know you lose a couple of guys. And all of a sudden visited the secondary is bad so I I wanna say yes. But something tells me it's gonna end at the end like. You know it equity is seeing brown owner Jim on more or something like that are Dovonte under your Randall Cobb and come back so. I'm gonna go Jimmy Graham went on to buy that but I think Randall Cobb. Probably be a close up. By 84 so. Well we saw an outstanding performance last night from chasing Anderson against the Chicago Cubs would buy or sell build junior guerra. Clearly the brewers' best pitcher in the rotation. That's a great question because shot scene has been so good since after his first week of the season. Could you eliminate chess scene. You know com. So I don't think so. Gary's been really really good you look at his numbers and who starts. Man. That's who 71 fury 66 in the third innings teamed her own value to 22 against some shots seem. You ready to 31 with a 358 ERA. These last six or seven games he's been fantastic these last ten game feeling he's been fantastic. So you know white I'll I'll go with Gary all of them back to give we've seen Gary do this before and he's pitched extremely well couple years ago before the injury last season. So I will say yes I'll tell you this though. If JC energy continues to pitch the way he did. And he starts to really get the clock up on his fastball. He could very fast worked himself into being though because remember there's just a short period of time Lester we're between him and Jimmy Nelson were dominant. Right now against Jason Anderson hit only 217. His bugaboo has been did the walks. He's given up to when he walks this season he's put himself and ends a tough position. We've got 49 strikeouts 28 walks in the season. Given up 33 runs and he's given up some key it's the usual batting 217 against he's got to whip of 170. Gary's whipped off on this team CO 150 which is fantastic. So yes I'm gonna go guerra a buyer for right now but I'll tell you what they got a couple of guys that they got the capability to be a really good 6234345. Teva rotation if they feel it if they get a guy that they and a treaty for the can really anchor saying number two. But I'm pretty solid. But yourselves. Later in the show bill I'd like to go through some numbers junior guerra. Compared to where he was in 2016 green to break out here and where he is now because. Seems to me like the old junior here is back we'll get back to that next hour. You want my take on this next one bill I don't really feel good about the future of the NBA because. Golden State I think is calling the shots right now bite yourself. As long as they keep their core in place the warriors. Will win the next three. NBA championships. They're going to be around. A long time. I you know I don't know how to put they're going to be around long time there held a team and when you look at the Golden State Warriors. Midnight if it's not like you're old. You know I mean. You keep Dre Yvonne green Kevin Durant. Obviously stepped curry played Johnson clay Thompson you keep that group together yes they're gonna win for a long time I go for the argue that. You buy me. You can bet they're going to be around a long long long time and it may be a longer run than what we saw the same Michael. Com. I'm trying to see here who stepped curry. He was making thirty plus million dollars a year he assigned for the next three or four years he's I've the next four years. Klay Thompson. He is signed fur well he's gonna become an unrestricted free agent after next year which you figure they're gonna end up paying imports also know unless he gets crazy with the money. And once we demand somewhere else. And you've got to also dream on green. He is signed at least through another year he knew who LCI Teddy would and you sat for awhile I mean. Yeah they're gonna keep this group together. They keep this group together Kevin Durant right now and Kevin Durant Fagan 32 and a half million dollars now he can opt out right here. But all indications are he's gonna opt out get paid and go back. So. He's he's he's gonna come back to that team and because he sent it to your trip to one and a half million dollar deal. He's gonna opt out come back and make you more money or just say this where one being his age his cap figure this year was 32 and a half million bucks. So. Yeah and then they're going to be around for a long long time except Korea about the ways kept figure coming into the season 37 point four million. I. Bottom line they're gonna be around. While. 58 or sell. Are like Stuart golf related Tiger Woods of course the big story ten years since he won his last US open his last major. If we continue stories announced it doesn't graduate from preschool and buy or sell bill Tiger Woods not only makes the cut at Shannon cocktails when he finishes. Top fifteen. And he makes the cut. I finish. I don't know about top fifteen on the same maybe top thirty. But not top fifty. I just I I don't I don't have a good feeling about tiger and majors right now. And he says and don't put play as we talk about your tomorrow he has been on we've been able to put four rounds together and he's been good in the sense that he can put. A couple of rounds together maybe make some cuts and term ends. But hasn't been all four and if he has woes. Bad rounds in the first two tournaments our first two rounds obviously he's not coming cup but I think he's gonna make the cut but I think he finishes and top. 25 ish maybe something like that now I mean there's been a couple tournaments this year where he was right there and he put together four solid rounds of golf around them ages old ones say right. In the majors correct then the masters was a major let down because the guy district in the Tiger Woods who would I know I thought he will look at China I mean if this was something else you know if you we are going back into the TPC here we're going into John Deere we're gonna and anyone of those absolutely he can win it. But majors this is a different animal I just haven't seen him really rise to the occasion in majors lately so much to say no he's -- make the cut but he's not going to be. By yourselves. The other guy who did not play in the US open last year there hills which was a darn shame because his daughter was graduating Phil Mickelson. Course to be plain and shipment cock. He's 47 years old buy or sell bill before the end of his career Phil will complete the Grand Slam and win a US open. Straight balls I don't know if sorry I didn't mean manager Mike McCarthy did not need to China and I wanna say yes. It's it's it's so hard. Two to win that specific turn you win another major too but I just. Yeah yeah you know what yeah what the health policy Phil well I just because Phil's got inning to win the tournament you know he's got experience he's finishing account before.
